  1. In Germany it’s already a no go not to bring your own bag especially when it comes to the grocery store. Barely anybody takes a plastic bag. For produce though, most people do use those thin plastic bags

  2. You should check out V-Dog they’re amazing my dog has been eating V-Dog for 4 years now. It’s vegan and so healthy for them.

  3. Love these videos. One thing I do with produce- if it doesn’t look like I’m going to use them up, I rinse or blanch them (depending on the vegetable) and freeze them. Boom- frozen veggies for future meals.

  4. I have celiac disease, and whenever I look to buy bulk items from Sprouts and Whole Foods, the bulk items always say "processed in a facility that also processes gluten, milk, ect." And it makes me so upset. I want to help save the Earth from this plastic problem, but I can never buy bulk foods!

  5. I always wonder if there’s a You Tube class you all take that instructs you to hold up the number fingers to demonstrate how many things being discussed. I’ve never understood why that’s always done unless you think your audience is 5 years of age and under.

  6. When I take my reusable produce bags to the store, the cashiers always comment on them. One even said that she would buy some! I’m pretty sure I’m the only person in town who uses them and I feel like I’m making an impact. 😊

  7. These tips are easy, everyone should do them! Sad, how country and society make it so hard to live zero waste.

  8. Also if you’re on a tight budget you don’t even have to buy produce bags. Just put everything in your cart and basket! Simple, free, and you’re going to wash the veggies anyway so who cares 🙂

  9. I found a small bulk foods store near where I go to school and it’s awesome! I buy my rice and beans there. Also, when I’m traveling, I bring an empty reusable water bottle so that I don’t have to buy bottled water at the airport.

  10. You convinced me to do more to be environnental. I got vegetable bags and i have had no problems at the check out. I am now looking at all the different ways i can get rid of the plastic in my household. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

  11. All of these!!!! I’m privileged enough to be able to shop at mostly Whole Foods, and I think they are extra conscious of this stuff, but I’ve never had a bad experience bringing my own jars or bags. No one has ever made me feel like an inconvenience. In fact, I have a lot of conversations with strangers now who ask me "how are you doing that?? I want to do that! Where did you get those?" Especially about the reusable produce bags!

  12. Thank you for all the common sense shopping tips! I just started putting a sustainability newsletter together at my office, I am definitely going to cite this video!

  13. One of the things I did was to make my own reusable produce bags rather than buying new. I just bought a sheer curtain panel from the thrift store, washed and sterilized it really well, and sewed my own. That way I could get a variety of sizes to suit my needs without spending a lot of money.

  14. Our grocery stores here are nothing like the ones that I was familiar with up north. I live in FL and Publix is the best that we can get and they can’t light a candle to some of the stores up north. Our farmer’s market is not local farmers. They are the middle men who buy from farmers and then sell to grocery stores. The last time that I went to the farmer’s market (misnomer) I kept going from stand to stand asking what farm they were and none of them were local farms. There was one guy who grew veggies in his garden at home and he was selling them….I bought from him…but the produce didn’t last long….which could be a good sign I guess. Anyway, I was asking because I wanted to know if they were GMO products or if they were organic. The guy who grew produce in his back yard said that he used chemicals….oh well. I tried, but it isn’t easy. I want to move back up north! Hubby is dragging his feet….he hates snow.

  15. Also, please write to your local and state/provincial government representative and ask them to enact or tighten laws about packaging food. Sustainability is the responsibility of the system that is _producing_ the waste, not of individuals. It’s ridiculous that the pressure to correct a systemic problem is being put on the shoulders of ordinary people. No amount of reusable bags are going to change the problems created by unsustainable business practices.

  16. i used to buy bulk all the time, but i work at whole foods and i see what customers do to those. homeless people, regular customers, kids, everyone sticks their dirty hands in there. i never buy bulk anymore, which is really sad, because it is better for the environment. salad bar too. i used to complain all the time about cross contamination. they used to have the delcious lemon pepper baked tofu right next to tuna. people are messy, i couldn’t buy the vegan stuff because people would splash the food into other containers. these tips are great on paper, but we need some global changes, and people changes in order for things to do some real good, it’s probably different in Canada, but people are jerks in the states. i’ve worked in retail 16 years, i’ve seen a lot and it’s all disturbing. don’t get me wrong, i love the tips, and i do try to be as eco friendly as possible, but there are road bumps. <3

  17. I also wanted to mention that a lot of plastic bags are not vegan! It’s shocking, but most contain animal fat.

  18. I’m using mesh bags!!! And Trader Joe’s produce bags are compostable so I use and reuse them as well!!! Awesome video and loooooove the bangs!!!!

  19. My cheap version of the nut bags were the small laundry bags at the Dollar Tree store. They show them being used for baby socks and stuff. But I like to use them as produce bags.

  20. A tip for bringing your own glass containers: go to the register and ask them to tare your jar. Tare means they will weigh it while it it empty so when you do put items in it, they will subtract the tare amount at checkout so you only pay for the items in the jar.

  21. Wie machst du des mit Tofu, temphe usw.? Kaufst du des einfach nicht oder geht es einfach nicht anders?

  22. You mention to check with the staff before you load up in your reusable containers.. Some places won’t allow you to for reasons and may throw them out

  23. How do you stay slim & fit ? I Think you have said you have had a history with body image issues and an eating disorder, so how do you manage to stay SO skinny while having a career centered around eating and quite often eating not-so-healthy vegan junk
foods as well as binge eating for the challenges you do… please explain

  24. The UK started charging 5p for carrier bags maybe 2 years ago and now everyone uses reusable bags. Its seems mental now that every week we would take 10 bags from the supermarket and not even think about it

Oh and the 5p goes to charity, and they may increase it to 10p next year

  25. At Aldi you bring your own bags or you can buy them there! They have plastic ones that are super cheap but you can re-use a few times, and they sell the cloth bags which is awesome!

  26. I love your Vlogs hope you don’t mind I’m sharing your vids on my Facebook Pop the Plastic page 💚

  27. I really hate seeing people using plastic bags for their produce and then again for the rest of their groceries at checkout. Like really people? The reusable bags are at every store now, right at checkout, and they are really cheap…..why keep paying for the plastic ones and being a total dickhead in the process. I hate how selfish and irresponsible/careless most of society is.
